Leather Plus
first emerged on the scene in the mid-1970s as an extension of our
store, Fremont Shoe Repair. Finding that we
could often make more money doing art/craft shows than we could repair
shoes, we offered English calfskin wallets, belts, and
buckles.
Leaving the shoe repair business, we continued to dabble in leather
products. In the 1990s, Ed got a chance to go to South
Dakota where he learned how to make cowboy boots using exotics.
Using that knowledge, we incorporated the exotic skins into
our wallet line, finding we had a very marketable commodity.
In 1999, we bought an existing woodcarving tool business,
which we ran under the name of Leather Plus just to make
bookkeeping easier. We have now decided to return leatherplus.com
to its original purposes, while marketing the woodcarving
tools, books, and supplies on its new stand-alone website:
